Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) treasurer Aroop Biswas has urged HDFC Bank to temporarily halt operations on the party's bank accounts, citing a growing dispute over who holds legitimate authority within the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). In a letter dated June 12 addressed to the manager of the bank's Kolkata branch, Biswas requested that the existing operational status of the accounts be maintained until the leadership dispute is settled by the appropriate authority. He specifically asked the bank not to allow any debit transactions or alterations to the account mandates during this period.

Describing himself as the treasurer of the party, Biswas stated that competing factions are currently claiming to represent the AITC, creating confusion over who is legally authorised to manage and operate the party's financial accounts. To safeguard party funds, he called for restrictions on withdrawals, transfers, pledges, or any other financial activity that could potentially be carried out without proper authorisation. According to him, disagreements regarding the control, administration and ownership of the party's affairs and assets have intensified in recent times.

Biswas also pointed to a series of political developments, claiming that several elected representatives have either distanced themselves from the party or openly challenged the current leadership. He argued that these developments have raised questions about the party's legitimate command structure.

Expressing concern about previously signed cheques that may already be in circulation, he warned that the possibility of unauthorised financial transactions cannot be ruled out. He therefore urged the bank to take precautionary measures and suspend account operations until a competent authority resolves the dispute. CPI(M) leader Mustafizur Rahman Rana reacted strongly to the issue, asserting that all TMC bank accounts should be frozen. He alleged that the funds held in those accounts were illegitimate and called for a complete suspension of banking operations linked to the party.
