Another political "son-rise" in Bihar as Nitish Kumar's son Nishant is likely to join JD(U) on Holi.

Bihar’s political landscape appears set for another “son-rise” as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, prepares to step into active politics by joining the Janata Dal (United) on Holi. The development was confirmed by Bihar Minister Shrawon Kumar, who said Nishant is expected to take on a significant responsibility within the party.
In a telephonic conversation with ANI, Shrawon Kumar stated that Nishant’s entry is the result of sustained demands from JD(U) workers and the youth of Bihar. While the party leadership will determine the specific role he will assume, the minister indicated that it would be a major one. He expressed happiness over the move, calling it a positive step for the party.
Bihar Minister Ashok Choudhary also backed the development, asserting that Nishant should enter active politics. He described him as an educated engineer who reflects Nitish Kumar’s simplicity, decency, and body language. Choudhary emphasized that the push for Nishant’s political debut has come from party workers rather than from Nitish Kumar himself, describing the timing around Holi as a “wonderful gift” for supporters.
Speculation about Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics has been ongoing since the National Democratic Alliance’s sweeping victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. In December 2025, JD(U) Working President Sanjay Jha said that party members and well-wishers wanted Nishant to contribute to the party, though the timing of his formal entry would ultimately be his own decision.
