Akhilesh Yadav Accuses BJP of Record Paper Leaks, Says Public Can't Trust Law When Government Is Involved

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday intensified his criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government, alleging that examination paper leaks have become more frequent during its tenure and accusing the administration of failing to safeguard the integrity of recruitment and competitive exams.

Addressing reporters, Yadav said the government must accept responsibility for repeated paper leak cases, adding that the issue had already been raised by the Opposition inside Parliament. "The responsibility rests with the government. We have discussed this matter in the House, and people across the country know that the largest number of paper leak incidents have taken place during the BJP government's rule," he said.

The SP leader also linked the recent gathering of large numbers of young people in Delhi to growing frustration over recruitment irregularities and examination controversies. According to him, repeated failures in conducting fair examinations have fueled dissatisfaction among students and job aspirants.

Responding to criticism from the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, who accused the Opposition of politicising the issue instead of debating the proposed legislation, Yadav questioned whether existing laws had produced meaningful results. He argued that although the government has introduced amendments to the earlier legislation, it should also explain how effectively the previous law was enforced. Referring to Uttar Pradesh, he claimed that more than 20 examination papers had leaked and urged the government to disclose how many accused individuals had been arrested or prosecuted.

Escalating his attack, Yadav alleged that those linked to the ruling establishment were connected to paper leak networks. "If the government itself is involved and people associated with the ruling party are part of it, what faith can people have in the law?" he remarked. The SP chief also called on the government to reassure protesting students after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) warned of fresh demonstrations if cases were registered against participants. He said the controversy could have been resolved if the government had clearly stated in Parliament that no legal action would be initiated against peaceful protesters.

Communist Party of India (CPI) MP P. Sandosh defended the speeches delivered by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Parliament, maintaining that their remarks were grounded in facts. He also took a swipe at Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, suggesting that the minister was not fully aware of the government's internal decisions.

Sandosh said political speeches made inside Parliament should not become the basis for criminal complaints. He described the remarks as part of normal democratic debate, arguing that allegations and counter-allegations are an inherent aspect of politics and should be answered politically rather than through legal action. Reiterating his support for the Congress leaders, Sandosh said there was no reason for concern if their statements reflected factual issues. He added that those who disagreed with the claims should challenge them through evidence and debate rather than pursuing legal proceedings.
