On May 9, the Air Force station issued an air warning to Chandigarh, alerting residents about a potential attack. Sirens were activated, and people were instructed to stay indoors and avoid balconies, as per the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh. Reports from May 8 indicated intense military exchanges between India and Pakistan from 8:30 pm to 12:30 am, with Operation Sindoor still in progress. The Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy remain on high alert. While there was no confirmation of Pakistani fighter jets being shot down, several Pakistani drones and missiles were successfully intercepted.

The Indian Army reported that the Pakistani Armed Forces launched multiple drone and other munitions attacks along the western border during the night of May 8-9, along with numerous ceasefire violations on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. These drone attacks were repelled, and a strong response was delivered to the ceasefire violations.

The escalation between India and Pakistan began after a terrorist attack killed 26 people in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. In retaliation, Indian forces targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir with precise missile strikes. On May 8, the Defence Ministry stated that the Pakistani military attempted to target several locations, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and Chandigarh, on the night of May 7. These attempts were thwarted, and a Pakistani air defense system in Lahore was destroyed.
