AIADMK-DMK Pact Could Happen In Tamil Nadu, With Nudge From BJP: Sources

Tamil Nadu politics has entered a phase of intense speculation after reports emerged suggesting that the AIADMK and the DMK could consider a political understanding in the state. Sources claim the move is being quietly encouraged by the BJP as regional parties attempt to respond to the rapid rise of actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The discussions come after the recently concluded Assembly elections produced an unexpected outcome. TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, making it the single-largest party but falling short of the majority mark needed to form the government on its own. Political observers say the result has unsettled both the DMK and AIADMK, parties that have dominated Tamil Nadu politics for decades. While neither party has officially confirmed any alliance talks, insiders suggest that informal conversations are taking place to explore possible options for government formation.
According to sources, some leaders within the DMK believe Vijay’s growing popularity could significantly alter Tamil Nadu’s traditional political structure if his party comes to power. AIADMK, which has struggled to regain its former strength after the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, is also reportedly reviewing all available political strategies.
Reports further indicate that the BJP may be playing a behind-the-scenes role in encouraging opposition parties to prevent TVK from forming the government. However, no official statement has been issued by the BJP regarding the speculation. One of the formulas being discussed reportedly includes AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami leading the government with indirect or issue-based support from the DMK. Political analysts, however, believe such an arrangement could face resistance from party workers and alliance partners due to the long-standing rivalry between the two Dravidian parties.
TVK leaders have insisted that the party, being the single-largest formation, should receive the first invitation to form the government. Sources also suggest the party is preparing for a possible floor test if rival parties attempt to unite against it. The ongoing developments have triggered strong reactions across Tamil Nadu, with political observers calling the situation one of the most dramatic shifts in the state’s recent political history. As speculation continues, all eyes are now on the next political moves from Chennai, which could redefine alliances and power equations in Tamil Nadu ahead of the government formation process.
