Ahmedabad Cyber Police have arrested four individuals in connection with an Aadhaar-based fraud involving Rs 25,000. Deputy Commissioner of Police Lavina Sinha said the case surfaced after a businessman, engaged in import-export, noticed he had stopped receiving OTP messages on his registered mobile number. Suspecting foul play, he approached the cyber crime branch for assistance.

During the investigation, officials discovered that the fraudsters had illegally changed the mobile number linked to the victim’s Aadhaar. This allowed them to receive OTPs and gain access to his DigiLocker account, where important personal documents were stored. Using the victim’s photograph, the accused created an AI-generated video to bypass biometric authentication systems. They then used the stolen details to open a bank account in his name and secured a loan of Rs 25,000.

Police confirmed that the newly linked mobile number belonged to the accused, enabling them to carry out the entire operation without the victim’s knowledge. All four suspects have now been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to determine if they were involved in similar cases.

In a separate incident on April 20, Shahdara Cyber Police busted a gang running a fake online trading scam. Two accused, Abhishek and Sumit from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, were arrested. The victim had initially invested Rs 10,000 and received returns, gaining trust, but later lost Rs 2 lakh after further investments. Police recovered two mobile phones used in the crime.
