AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Monday moved a motion in the Rajya Sabha under Rule 267, seeking to suspend the House's scheduled business for a discussion. He requested an urgent debate on what he termed a 'public health emergency' in Delhi, rising crime, and the humanitarian impact of bulldozer demolitions.

The Winter Session of Parliament began on December 1 with the 6th Session of the 18th Lok Sabha and the 269th Session of the Rajya Sabha, and will conclude on December 19. Today, the Lok Sabha will hold a special discussion to mark 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram, highlighting several lesser-known historical aspects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to open the debate at noon, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh speaking at the conclusion. The BJP-led NDA government has been allotted three hours for its participation, while the overall discussion will span 10 hours and continue in the Rajya Sabha on December 9, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to speak first.

Eight Congress leaders, including Deputy Lok Sabha LoP Gaurav Gogoi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Deepender Hooda, will also contribute to the Lok Sabha debate. This year marks the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and first published in Bangadarshan on November 7, 1875. It was later included in his novel Anandamath (1882) and set to music by Rabindranath Tagore, becoming a significant part of India’s civilisational, political, and cultural heritage.
