AAP Leader Lucky Oberoi Gunned Down in Daylight Attack Outside Jalandhar Gurdwara

A prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Lucky Oberoi, was shot dead by two unidentified assailants on a bike this morning outside a gurdwara in the city's Model Town area, police confirmed. The 38-year-old was leaving after morning prayers when the attackers fired multiple rounds, striking him several times.
Eyewitnesses reported the shooting occurred around 7:30 AM near Oberoi's Thar SUV. The gunmen, on a Honda Activa scooter, emptied 8-10 bullets from advanced firearms before fleeing. Oberoi was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries on arrival. His vehicle sustained heavy damage, with shattered windows scattering glass across the scene. Jalandhar Police swiftly cordoned off the area, launched a manhunt with 15 checkpoints citywide, and deployed forensic experts to recover shell casings and review CCTV footage. Investigators believe the assailants had prior knowledge of Oberoi's routine, having possibly surveilled the gurdwara.
Preliminary findings point to personal rivalries as the likely motive, with no immediate evidence of political conspiracy or extortion demands. Oberoi, active in local AAP circles and linked to party in-charge Rajvinder Kaur Thiada, had family ties to recent municipal elections. This marks the second such AAP targeting in Punjab recently, following Jharmal Singh's killing in Amritsar last month. Senior officers are leading the probe, vowing quick arrests amid rising concerns over daylight attacks in the state.
Political tensions escalated as BJP spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill condemned the incident on social media, questioning AAP's grip on law and order in Punjab. Local residents expressed shock, prompting increased police patrols in Model Town. Authorities urge the public to share tips anonymously. Updates will follow as more details emerge.
