Actor Omi Vaidya, widely recognized for playing the character "Chatur Ramalingam" (popularly known as "Silencer") in the Bollywood film 3 Idiots, has publicly expressed concern for education reformer and innovator Sonam Wangchuk, whose indefinite hunger strike entered its 17th day on Monday. In a video message shared on social media, Vaidya appealed to the public to pay attention to Wangchuk's worsening health. Referring to him as the real-life inspiration behind 3 Idiots' fictional character Phunsukh Wangdu, the actor said, "Do you know he may die? I don't want Phunsukh Wangdu to die." His remarks quickly gained traction online, drawing widespread attention and sparking discussions across social media platforms.

Wangchuk has been observing the hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, where he is demanding action on issues related to education reforms and accountability. As the protest has stretched beyond two weeks, concerns over his physical condition have intensified. Reports indicate that he has lost a considerable amount of weight during the fast, although he has maintained that he remains committed to continuing the protest until his demands receive a meaningful response.

Supporters and activists gathered at the protest site have continued to urge the authorities to engage in dialogue, warning that prolonged fasting poses serious health risks. Medical experts have also cautioned that an extended hunger strike can lead to severe complications if not closely monitored. Vaidya's message has reignited public interest in Wangchuk's connection with 3 Idiots. The 2009 blockbuster's character Phunsukh Wangdu, portrayed by Aamir Khan, was inspired by Wangchuk's work in promoting innovative education methods and practical learning in Ladakh. Since the actor's appeal surfaced, several social media users have also questioned why other members of the film's cast have not publicly commented on the ongoing protest.

The hunger strike has attracted support from various sections of society, including politicians, students, education activists, and civil society groups. Several public figures have urged Wangchuk to prioritize his health while simultaneously calling on the government to address the issues raised through discussions. As the protest enters its third week, attention remains focused on whether authorities will initiate talks with Wangchuk and his supporters. With growing public concern over his health, pressure continues to mount for a resolution through dialogue rather than allowing the situation to deteriorate further.

Wangchuk, known internationally for his contributions to sustainable education, innovation, and environmental conservation, remains one of India's most prominent education reform advocates. His ongoing protest has once again brought national attention to the broader debate surrounding educational accountability and systemic reforms.
