After a boat capsized in the Yamuna River at Vrindavan in Mathura district on Friday, SP (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat reported that 10 people lost their lives while 22 were rescued. A large-scale search and rescue effort involving the NDRF, SDRF, PAC, and private divers is still ongoing. Eight emergency police response units (PRBs), fire rescue teams, and ambulances were sent to the site. In total, 32 individuals were pulled out, of whom 10 succumbed, while 22 are safe.
He emphasized the extensive nature of the operation, noting that eight NDRF teams, five SDRF teams, and three PAC teams are currently engaged, along with around 120 private divers. So far, a 14-kilometre stretch of the river has been searched. Rescue operations resumed early Saturday morning, with teams including NDRF, SDRF, PAC personnel, and local divers continuing efforts to locate any missing individuals. Deep-sea divers from the NDRF are also part of the mission.
Rawat added that authorities are still determining the total number of passengers on board, as some victims were taken to various hospitals, including private facilities. A final count will help confirm whether anyone remains unaccounted for. ADM (Judicial) Ved Priya Arya said that rescue teams are working in close coordination with the administration and are in touch with the victims’ families, assuring that all efforts are being made to locate everyone.
Search operations continued near Keshi Ghat in Vrindavan on Saturday morning, with officials confirming that efforts are ongoing across the affected area of the Yamuna River. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
