Former President Trump’s suggestion to "clean out" Gaza by relocating Palestinians to countries like Egypt and Jordan has been widely condemned as a plan for ethnic cleansing. Referring to Gaza as a "demolition site," he proposed that residents move "either temporarily or long-term."
He stated, "You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing." Trump also suggested constructing new housing "in a different location where they can maybe live in peace for a change."
The President claimed he had approached Jordan's King Abdullah and Egypt's president with this idea, but both leaders rejected the proposal to accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza. The plan has been criticized by Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, and human rights advocates, who labeled it as ethnic cleansing. However, far-right Israeli nationalists have expressed support for the suggestion.
Trump’s comments come amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, with rising tensions over Israel’s refusal to permit thousands of Palestinians to return to the northern part of the territory.
