German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made his first official visit to India, arriving in Ahmedabad and receiving a warm welcome from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit set the stage for extensive discussions focused on enhancing India-Germany cooperation across trade, investment, defence, technology, education, and green growth. In 2024‑25, bilateral trade between the two countries reached a record $51 billion, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 25th year of their strategic partnership.
