Jamaat-e-Islami Takes to Karachi Streets as Islamabad Red Zone Faces Restrictions

Jamaat-e-Islami has begun its “Super Long March” from Karachi’s Cantt Station, with party chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman travelling aboard the Rehman Baba Express toward Islamabad. The party is calling for the complete withdrawal of the petroleum levy. In Islamabad, authorities have blocked access to the Red Zone using shipping containers as protest groups and caravans make their way toward the capital from Multan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Earlier negotiations between Jamaat-e-Islami representatives and a government delegation failed to resolve the dispute. Rehman has warned that if the government does not accept the party’s demands, the protest could escalate into a broader campaign seeking the removal of the government.
