Iraq PM Al Sudani Holds Talks with Iran President Pezeshkian, Signed Trade and Security Pacts

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani paid his first official visit to Iran since assuming office, underscoring Baghdad's intention to deepen cooperation with its eastern neighbor at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions across West Asia. In Tehran, Al Sudani held wide-ranging discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as politics, trade, economic development, transportation, and security. The two leaders oversaw the signing of four bilateral agreements designed to improve coordination between their governments and further strengthen diplomatic and strategic ties. During the visit, Al Sudani reaffirmed that Iraq would not permit its territory to be used for activities that could threaten Iran's security. He also reiterated his government's commitment to preserving regional peace, promoting stability, and respecting the sovereignty of all neighboring nations.
