India is gearing up for a major transformation in its digital infrastructure, with the country’s data centre capacity expected to expand nearly fourfold by 2030. According to a report by Anarock Capital, the total data centre footprint could rise from around 27 million square feet in early 2026 to more than 101 million square feet by 2030. The sector is attracting significant investment, with capital commitments estimated at over $300 billion. During the same period, India’s IT capacity is projected to increase from approximately 1.8 GW to more than 6.7 GW, while the number of operational data centre facilities could rise from 164 to around 210 across the country. The rapid expansion is being driven by several factors, including the growing demand for artificial intelligence, increased cloud adoption, the rollout of 5G networks and the accelerated digital transformation of businesses. These trends are creating a growing need for large-scale computing and storage infrastructure. Major technology hubs such as Mumbai-MMR, Chennai and Delhi-NCR are expected to remain at the centre of this growth, attracting data centre developers, technology companies and investors. India’s expanding data centre ecosystem is increasingly becoming an important part of the country’s digital economy, while also strengthening its position in the global technology investment landscape. The scale of planned infrastructure and capital deployment highlights how rapidly demand for computing power is changing as AI and other digital technologies become more widespread.
