The European Parliament has cautioned Pakistan that ongoing human rights concerns could threaten the country’s access to the EU’s important GSP+ trade privileges. Members of the Parliament called on Islamabad to take stronger action against issues such as enforced disappearances, unlawful detentions, and the alleged misuse of legal provisions targeting activists, media professionals, and minority communities. EU lawmakers emphasized that Pakistan’s continued eligibility for preferential trade arrangements is linked to its commitment to international human rights standards and the implementation of required reforms.
