Delhi Building Collapses at 1:30 PM While Most Occupants Were Still Inside

A five-storey building being used as student paying-guest accommodation collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. The property, reportedly identified as Hostel Daze, stood near Nanakpura Gurudwara and was surrounded by several educational institutions. According to the latest information, two people have lost their lives, while several others are believed to still be trapped beneath the debris. Emergency personnel have managed to rescue a number of people alive, including students who were taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The structure consisted of a basement along with five floors above ground level. Police officials said that repair work was being carried out in the basement when the building suddenly gave way. Authorities are investigating what caused the collapse, while concerns are emerging over the building’s structural condition and overall safety. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the affected site and said different agencies were working together to speed up the rescue effort and locate those still trapped. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Services, along with ambulances and other emergency personnel, have been mobilised at the scene. Rescue workers continue to clear the rubble carefully as the operation remains focused on locating anyone who may still be alive beneath the collapsed structure.
