Iran remains an independent regional power, pursuing its own ideological and strategic objectives rather than acting as a direct proxy for China. However, Beijing has continued to strengthen its relationship with Tehran through expanding economic cooperation and reported military assistance. According to reports, Iran is expected to receive as many as 400 Chinese-made shoulder-fired air defence systems (MANPADS) in a deal estimated to be worth between $60 million and $70 million.
