Israel announced it had struck a military facility in Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah on Tuesday (Sept 16), marking its latest attack on the Houthi movement. The Houthis, who hold control over Yemen’s most populous regions, have been targeting ships in the Red Sea, claiming their actions are in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

Tuesday’s strike came just hours after Israel issued an evacuation order for the port, and weeks after a major Israeli assault in August that killed several Houthi leaders. According to Houthi-run Al Masirah TV, 12 Israeli airstrikes hit the port’s docks. Two port sources confirmed to Reuters that three recently restored docks were struck, while local residents said the attack lasted around 10 minutes.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz wrote on X that the “Houthi terrorist organisation will continue to suffer blows and pay painful prices for any attempt to target Israel.” The Houthis have previously launched missiles toward Israel, though most have been intercepted. Meanwhile, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed on Telegram that the group’s air defences had forced Israeli jets to retreat, though no evidence was provided.
