A Russian parliamentary delegation, led by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 3, 2025. The visit aimed to bolster India-Russia relations and reinforce their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership through regular high-level interactions.
President Murmu emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue between the two nations, highlighting how parliamentary exchanges contribute to stronger cooperation. She also underscored the role of mechanisms like the Inter-Parliamentary Commission and encouraged greater participation from women and young parliamentarians in fostering deeper ties.
Volodin reaffirmed India's significance as Russia's key partner in Asia, noting a fivefold increase in bilateral trade over the past five years. He stressed the need for legislative support to implement agreements made by leaders Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin. Discussions also touched on collaboration in global forums such as the UN and BRICS. During their visit, the delegation also met with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, where they explored ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation as a cornerstone of the India-Russia strategic relationship.
