DIG Border Range Sandeep Goyal announced that Punjab Police, working with central agencies and multiple state police forces, has dismantled an international ISI-backed terror network involved in a grenade attack in Gurdaspur and plotting further assaults. Speaking to ANI on Monday, DIG Goyal said the network was led by terrorist Shahzad Bhatti, along with Zeeshan Akhtar from Jalandhar Rural and Amandeep Singh Aman Pannu from Gurdaspur. He stated that the group intended to ignite communal tensions. “They planned to create chaos and disharmony with a hand grenade attack. They had already thrown a grenade at a police station in Gurdaspur,” he said.

He explained that the network operated in multiple layers. “Two modules had been formed, and the second group was preparing for another strike within 4–5 days. We foiled that plan yesterday. Naveen and Kush have been arrested, and we recovered two pistols and a Chinese-made P86 hand grenade from them,” he added. Interrogation of the suspects led police to additional members. “Gurjeet Singh and Pradeep Singh were arrested yesterday. Through questioning, we identified both modules. We also learned that members of the first module, Hargun and Vijay Prajapati from Gwalior, had already been detained by Delhi Police. The third member has been identified and will be caught soon.”

He said further action is in progress. “The second module has also been mapped. Naveen and Kush are in custody, and a third individual linked to them has also been identified and will be arrested shortly.” In a separate incident, a 35-year-old man named Inderpreet Singh Perri was shot dead late Monday in Chandigarh’s Sector 26, prompting a major investigation. IG Chandigarh Pushpendra Kumar confirmed that multiple rounds were fired—around nine shots, with eight empty shells and one live cartridge found at the scene.

Initial findings show the victim sustained 4–5 bullet wounds. Police suspect gang rivalry, as the deceased had several criminal cases against him. A forensic team is analyzing evidence, and CCTV footage from nearby locations is being reviewed. The body has been sent to PGI, Chandigarh, for post-mortem examination.
