A financial agreement reached at the COP29 summit in Azerbaijan to assist less-developed nations in combating climate change has faced criticism for being inadequate to address the severity of the crisis. After protracted negotiations that extended over 30 hours, wealthier nations committed to increasing their annual contributions to $300 billion by 2035. However, the response from poorer countries has been largely negative. The African Group of Negotiators labeled the amount as "too little, too late," while India's representative dismissed it as "a paltry sum."
Developing nations had originally requested $1.3 trillion in annual support to effectively tackle the climate challenge.
