PM Modi says India and Ghana see great potential for cooperation in critical minerals, defence, and maritime security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Ghanaian President John Mahama on Wednesday (local time), during which both leaders upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Partnership. PM Modi highlighted the significant potential for collaboration in sectors like critical minerals, defence, maritime security, and energy.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated, "India and Ghana see great potential for close cooperation in critical minerals, defence, maritime security, and energy. We also discussed strengthening cultural ties." Describing the meeting as "extremely fruitful," PM Modi noted that both sides explored ways to enhance trade and economic relations. He added that they discussed expanding cooperation in FinTech, skill development, healthcare, and other areas.
PM Modi expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian government for bestowing upon him the country's highest civilian honour, The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana. He said, "I am deeply grateful to the people and Government of Ghana for this recognition. I dedicate it to the promising future of our youth, our shared cultural heritage, and the long-standing ties between our nations."
He further assured that India remains committed to supporting Ghana's development and strengthening bilateral ties. "This honour also carries a responsibility — to continue working towards deeper India-Ghana friendship. India will always be a reliable partner and stand by the people of Ghana," he said. This visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over 30 years and is expected to significantly strengthen the India-Ghana partnership while reaffirming India’s commitment to Africa and the Global South.
