On the solemn occasion of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army is paying homage to the families of the fallen heroes who gave their lives for the nation, according to an official statement. By visiting the homes of these martyrs, the Army is honouring their legacy and reminding the nation of the exceptional bravery and dedication shown by these warriors in the service of the motherland.

As part of the tribute, Army officers and soldiers visited the home of Capt Vijayant Thapar in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. They respectfully presented a commemorative memento to his parents, Col (Retd) V. N. Thapar and his wife, as a symbol of deep respect and everlasting gratitude. The visit stirred powerful emotions and pride among the family, with the surroundings echoing with spirited chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai." In addition, the Army is preparing a series of commemorative events to mark the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, honouring the valour, sacrifice, and determination of the troops who protected India’s borders during the Kargil War in 1999. These events will continue until July 26.

Observed annually on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas marks India's triumph in Operation Vijay, which led to the successful recapture of key mountain positions from Pakistani forces. The Kargil conflict stands as a testament to India’s powerful military, political, and diplomatic efforts. It is particularly remembered for its strategic surprises and India’s restraint in confining the conflict to the Kargil-Siachen sectors, as well as the swift and coordinated military response.

This year’s observance will feature a variety of events designed to involve local communities and honour the legacy of the war heroes. These events will highlight major operations and milestones from the conflict and will embody the patriotic, adventurous, and cultural spirit of the Indian Army amid the tough terrain of Western Ladakh.
