In the early hours of Friday, June 6, Russian drones launched a coordinated attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, igniting fires and damaging residential buildings across various parts of the city, local authorities reported. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said the drones approached in multiple waves, prompting Ukraine’s air defense systems to respond actively. He also raised concerns about the possible use of ballistic missiles in follow-up attacks.

According to Reuters witnesses, several loud explosions were heard throughout the city, with one particularly large fire breaking out at the site of a drone strike. In the Darnytskyi district, located on the eastern side of Kyiv, drones hit the upper floors of a high-rise apartment complex, setting it ablaze. Tkachenko warned that emergency power cuts might be necessary in the affected area. Unverified reports from a Telegram channel also claimed that a shopping center in the same district had caught fire.

Additionally, fires were reported in a residential building in a western district of Kyiv. Authorities discovered fragments of downed drones in at least three districts across the city. Emergency services responded to multiple scenes, while officials said they were still assessing the full extent of the damage and checking for possible injuries or casualties. The drone attack marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict, intensifying fears of further strikes on civilian infrastructure and residential areas in Ukraine’s capital.
