The French state has formally proposed to purchase a portion of the former Advanced Computing division of Atos for €410 million ($466.33 million), the company announced on Monday. This offer marks a strategic move by the French government to secure a critical part of Atos’ high-performance computing capabilities, amid growing interest in safeguarding national technological assets. The €410 million proposal is based on the enterprise value of the targeted business segment.

Atos, a major player in the European tech industry, was previously valued at over €10 billion during its peak. However, the company faced serious financial challenges and only managed to recover in 2024 after reaching a restructuring agreement with its creditors. The sale of part of its computing division reflects Atos’ broader plan to streamline operations and stabilize its business.

The company clarified that its Vision AI business is excluded from the transaction and will remain under Atos' control. Vision AI, which focuses on artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics, will be repositioned within the group’s Eviden division, which specializes in digital, cloud, and cybersecurity services.

This deal, if finalized, would mark a significant step in Atos’ ongoing transformation and the French government's commitment to maintaining sovereignty over vital digital infrastructure. The acquisition would also ensure continuity in key areas such as supercomputing, often considered essential for defense, research, and innovation. Atos stated that further details would be shared as the transaction progresses and regulatory procedures are completed. The deal is expected to undergo thorough scrutiny before closing.
