The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, visited the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini to assess its readiness for implementing the new criminal laws. He emphasised that forensic reports play a crucial role in investigations and help ensure quicker, evidence-based justice in the capital.

During Monday’s visit, the Lieutenant Governor conducted a detailed review of the lab’s infrastructure, technical capacity, workflow, and ongoing modernisation efforts. He also interacted with senior officials and scientific staff to understand their operational needs and the challenges faced by different divisions.

A major focus of the visit was boosting the lab’s capacity to handle POCSO cases promptly and reducing the backlog across key departments such as Bio/DNA, Cyber Forensics, Ballistics, Chemistry, and Toxicology. The review aimed to identify obstacles, improve efficiency, and ensure the lab can meet the increased forensic requirements under the new BNS laws. The Lieutenant Governor praised the overall functioning of the FSL and commended the scientists for their commitment to delivering timely criminal justice under the new legal framework, keeping public interest, empathy, and national security in mind.

Principal Director Dr. Anil Agarwal stated that the Delhi FSL remains dedicated to maintaining top standards of scientific excellence, ensuring every piece of evidence is examined with accuracy and integrity. He added that the use of advanced technology and equipment helps solve complex criminal cases efficiently, contributing to public safety and strengthening the justice system through science.
