On Tuesday (June 10), Greta Thunberg accused Israeli authorities of abducting her and other pro-Palestinian activists in international waters. She stated that she refused to sign a declaration saying she had illegally entered Israel before being deported. Speaking to reporters at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport after her deportation, the Swedish climate and human rights activist asserted that she and her team had not broken any laws and urged the immediate release of the activists who remained in Israeli custody.

“I made it very clear in my statement — we were taken from international waters and brought into Israel against our will,” Thunberg said. Responding to past remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump, who called her “an angry person,” Thunberg laughed and remarked, “Frankly, the world needs more young angry women right now, especially given the current situation.”

Thunberg, 22, landed in Paris a day after Israeli naval forces intercepted her group as they attempted to sail to Gaza. The Israeli navy boarded their aid vessel near Gaza on Monday morning, preventing them from breaching the long-standing naval blockade and detaining the 12-member crew, including Thunberg.

She denied claims that the mission was merely a publicity stunt, emphasizing that a prior attempt using a larger ship had ended when that vessel was bombed. She added that she now badly needed sleep and a shower. When asked about her next steps, Thunberg said she wasn’t certain, but might return to Sweden.
