Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the state government has deported over 330 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in recent months and plans to intensify these efforts. Citing the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act of 1950, Sarma emphasized that district commissioners have been empowered under this law to identify and remove illegal immigrants from the state.

“In our determined efforts to combat illegal infiltration, we rely on a special provision that allows DCs to identify and expel infiltrators. Over the past few months, more than 330 such individuals have been pushed back, and the process will be accelerated,” Sarma said during a special one-day session of the Assam Assembly.

In an indirect dig at Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi, Sarma revealed that around 2,600 Facebook accounts have been found promoting content related to "Palestine and Assam" and are operated from cities like Islamabad and Riyadh. He claimed that these accounts endorse a specific political figure from Assam rather than national leaders like Rahul Gandhi. Sarma added that he would soon share details of these accounts with the media.

Reaffirming his commitment to Assam's welfare, Sarma declared, “I consider myself an Assamese before being the Chief Minister, and my decisions will always reflect that. In protecting Assam’s interests, I draw inspiration from former chief ministers.” The 1950 Act authorizes the government to expel illegal immigrants whose presence is deemed harmful to public interest, outlining the procedures for their identification and removal.
